Alan Greig - Artistic Director/Choreographer

Born in Scotland, Alan Greig trained in London at the Laban Centre and Central School of Ballet.  He spent a year in New York City as a scholarship student of seminal choreographer Alwin Nikolais.  He has since taught, choreographed and performed extensively in the UK.  In 1990 he formed The X Factor Dance Company of which he is the Artistic Director.  Alan was Choreographer-in-Residence for Edinburgh from 1991 to 1993 and attended the prestigious International Dance Course for Professional Choreographers and Composers in 1995.  In 1996, New Moves brought Canadian mentor Peter Boneham (Le Groupe, Ontario) to work with The X Factor and the British Council supported a performance in Germany at the Manntanz Festival, Cologne. 

Recent choreographic commissions include Liverpool Institute of the Performing Arts, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, University College Bretton Hall, Scottish Dance Theatre and Edinburgh’s Telford College. 

Professional teachings include Dundee Rep. Dance Company, V-Tol, Jonathan Burrows Groups, London Youth Project and Scottish Youth Dance Festival.  Alan is well known in the youth and community sector having created over 45 diverse works throughout the UK.  In 2003 he was invited to Hong Kong to collaborate with, award winning theatre company, Theatre du Pif in their production Dance Me Till The End of Love.  2004 saw a commission from the National Museum of Scotland to create a site specific work for The X Factor Youth Dance Company.  In 2005 he was invited to Cove Park for a residency with film-makers Brian and Gail English.  He was also commissioned by Artlink, Edinburgh to create work for Traveller (a dance company for people with learning difficulties) with funds from the City of Edinburgh Council.  The show Person or Persons Unknown was performed at the Traverse Theatre to critical acclaim.  Alan is presently studying for an MA in Dance Theatre Practices at the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts.

Peter Kyle

Peter Kyle is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and Artistic Director of Peter Kyle Dance, formed in 2006 and based in New York City. A versatile performer, Mr. Kyle has toured internationally with Murray Louis and Nikolais Dance, Mark Morris Dance Group, Erick Hawkins Dance Company, Pittsburgh Dance Alloy, Gina Gibney Dance, Works/Laura Glenn Dance, Pacific Performance Project/east and Chamber Dance Company, among others.

Since 1993 Mr. Kyle’s choreography has been presented internationally, including commissions by Kaatsbaan International Dance Center, The Dancenow/NYC Festival, Cornish College of the Arts, UW Summer Arts Festival, the Museum of Glass: International Center for Contemporary Art, the Taste of New York Dance Festival in Cyprus, and the University of Stavanger, Norway. In addition, Peter Kyle Dance has performed in New York City at Abrons Arts Center / Henry Street Settlement, Chez Bushwick, Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Triskelion Arts, Joyce SoHo, Symphony Space, and the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center. A highly regarded teacher, Mr. Kyle has served on the faculties of University of Washington, Cornish College of the Arts, and currently at Marymount Manhattan College, HB Studio, and as a guest artist, conducting residencies and workshops internationally.

Errol White

Errol graduated from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in 1992 and subsequently went on to perform with Diversions Dance Company, Terry Beck Dance (USA), Random Dance Company, Bill T Jones and Janet Smith & Dancers. In 1995, with Gerald Tyler, he co-founded Tears Before Bedtime, a Dance/theatre company.

From 1997 to 2002 he was rehearsal director and dancer with Scottish Dance Theatre. During his time with the company he choreographed two works: Still cries at a good film (1999), and grace (2002). He was recently awarded a critics award by the Dance Europe magazine for best male performer and was awarded the Marion North Mentoring Award (for choreography). In 2002 he joined Phoenix Dance Theatre and during that same year performed as an aerialist in Hamburg for Micha Bergese Productions. In 2005 Errol form his own dance company, white group. 

Claire Benson

Claire Benson graduated from the London Studio Centre with a BA in Theatre Dance in 2001. As a final year student she toured with 'Intoto' dance company working with choreographers such as Jan De Schynkel, Michael Popper, Vivienne Newport, Ramon Oller and Anthony Van Laast.  Since Graduating Claire has worked with Gelede Dance (OXford), Retina Dance Company (London) as part of the 'Gradient' graduate project in 2002, after which she moved to Edinburgh and has been based there ever since.  Claire has been working with 'Freshmess' dance company for the last three years, performances include Edinburgh's Fringe Festivals and the British Dance Edition 2006.

As a freelance dance teacher, Claire has worked extensively throughout Scotland and England including organisations such as Dance Base, Y dance, Edinburgh City Council and Edinburgh University.

Davina Givan

Davina has performed extensively with a variety of company’s including Matthew Hawkins, Scottish Dance Theatre, Richard Alston Company and Phoenix Dance Theatre. In 2002 she was nominated for a Dance Critic’s Circle Award for her work with Scottish Dance Theatre and was invited to perform a solo from Five Ruckert Songs at the Peter Darrell Trust Gala in the same year. Davina is currently a member of White Group Dance Company.

Rachel McDermott

Rachel has worked with X Factor Dance Dompany in Scotland on several occasions working with Alan Greig and also remaking 'LaReigne' by Steven Petronio.  She has worked with Birmingham Rep and Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's version of the Soldiers Tale.  She has worked with Retina Dance Company for two years internationally and also took part in research and development with Hofesh Shetcher as part of Jerwood Choreolab in 2006.  Rachel is currently working with Motionhouse Dance Theatre.
